- Create or Edit Assets & Liabilities
-
- If you've come here to edit, change anything you want. If you're here
-
- to create a new asset or liability, first tell us its name. Then, if
-
- you designate it an "Aggregate"——just a heading, really, for Non-
-
- Aggregates to huddle under——there's nothing else to do. Click OK or
-
- Next. (To build a household inventory, first create an Aggregate
-
- by that name, then Aggregates beneath it for each room in the house,
-
- then Non-Aggregates for each item of value in each of those rooms.)
-
-
-
- If you're creating a Non-Aggregate, the fields to fill in will vary
-
- depending on the Account Type you choose. (Most are self-explanatory.
-
- "Things" would be for stuff like jewelry and furniture. "Deposit"
-
- is for the security deposit you left with your landlord or the phone
-
- company.) See pages >B3>-5—8 in your manual for step-by-step
-
- instructions on setting up a checking account; pages >B6>-2—5 for
-
- setting up a portfolio. You'll see reasons >Unot to use linked>
-
- >Uaccounts> (but rather give a single account check privileges, instead)
-
- and (>B6>-14) to >Uset up separate portfolios for shorts>.
-
-
-
- Mark the Non-budget box for any asset that doesn't normally involve
-
- money transfers. That way, we won't include it in the scroll box of
-
- assets and liabilities that shows up on the Write Checks, Spend and
-
- Receive Money, and Universal Transactions screens. You can always come
-
- back and unmark the box, if you find you want to start transfering money
-
- to and from your living room couch or the Monet that hangs in your
-
- study; but ordinarily you won't want those assets cluttering your list
-
- of checking and savings accounts (which are also assets), when you go to
-
- pay bills or record receipts.
-
-
-
- Click "Erase" without fear——we won't let you erase any aggregate that
-
- has sub-assets or sub-liabilities, nor any non-aggregate account in
-
- which you've recorded transactions. (To do so, first erase each
-
- transaction.) You may erase your couch at any time, however, so do that
-
- only if you've really tossed it out onto the street.

-
- Choose Print from the FILE menu to see our asset and liability reports.
-
- But see, also, the balance sheet and net worth reports we print when you
-
- choose View Your Net Worth from the NET WORTH menu.
